Ocean Information
Facts
The four main oceans are the Atlantic, the Pacific, the Indian, and the Arctic.
The Pacific Ocean is so large that all of the land on Earth could fit
inside it. These four oceans are really part of one large world ocean. Long ago
sailors use rope to map the ocean bottom. They measured the depth of the ocean
by measuring the length of the wet rope. Today scientists map the ocean bottom
by using sound waves.

Vocabulary of the Ocean Floor
Continental Shelf-the shallow part of the ocean floor
Continental Slope-the land from the continental shelf to the ocean basin
Ridge-a chain of underwater mountains
Ocean Basin-the deep ocean floor
Trench-a deep narrow valley in the ocean floor
We will work together to create an Ocean ABC book.
